So Wesley decided to move his IronMan blog to a different site and he seems like he is going to be pretty good about updating it this time around and has talked me into blogging about my student teaching experiences...okay, maybe not talked me into it, but he mentioned it and I thought it might be a good idea and it's something to look back at later. So here I am. :)
I started my student teaching internship last Monday at Squalicum High School and so far I am very overwhelmed. It is a lot different going there to just help out in a class vs. taking on the role of the teacher and everything that comes with it. In the one week I have been there I have already taught 4 lessons, been observed by my UIC (University Intern Coordinator) , been to a student/parent/administration meeting, been to a staff meeting, created a Geometry Support class with my CT (which added another prep to my workload), been to an Algebra Support meeting, lesson planned with my CT, and lots more...IT'S CRAZY!!
I am only teaching one class right now but it is amazing how drained I am at the end of the day. I am going to take on both Algebra 2 classes starting next week (which means planning and teaching on my own) and then within the next couple weeks after that I will take on the Algebra Support classes and finally the Geometry Support. I have scheduled my next 3 observations with my UIC in the next 4 weeks so that I can get my "midterm" in before the end of March in order to get my sub-certificate. My CT is missing 3 days at the end of March/beginning of April so if I can get my sub-certificate before she leaves then I will get paid for teaching those 3 days! Pretty sweet.
Well that's it for now.
